Q: What are the benefits of playing sand soccer?

Q: Are there different levels of play?
A: Depending on the number of event participants, play levels may be broken into recreational and competitive but that is not guaranteed. We invite you to look at specific event, tournament or league details as the levels of play will be clearly outlined.

Q: How many players are on the field at a time?
A: Again, this will be clearly outlined in the event details of which you are interested. If the event is 3v3, there will be no goalkeepers. If the event is 4v4 or 5v5, there will be either 4 or 5 field players plus a goalkeeper. 

Q: What is the average team roster size?
A: Maximum players for 3v3 is 8, minimum is 4. Maximum players  for 4v4 is 10, minimum is 5. Maximum players for 5v5 is 12, minimum is 6. 

Q: How long are the games?
A: Half/period lengths will vary based on the specifics of the competition. This information will be provided on an event-by-event basis. 

Q: Can you register as a team or an individual?
A: Yes, both options are available. If you and a few friends want to register but do not have enough for a full team, you can note that request to be together on the same team in the registration process. 

Q: What about weather concerns? 
A: Updates on playing conditions and weather delays will be posted on the website, sent out to team captains through their preferred communication method (as indicated at registration) and through our social media profiles. Updates will be posted no later than an hour and a half before your scheduled event. 

Q: How much does it cost to play?
A: Cost to participate varies per the event. Please look into the registration details for your event of choice. If that information is unclear, send us an email at

Q: What equipment is needed to play sand soccer?
A: Players may not wear shinguards or shoes. Sand socks are optional. Sand soccer specific soccer balls will be provided for TBKC programming. 

Q: What size is a sand soccer field?
A: Field size will vary based on the specifics of the competition. This information will be provided on an event-by-event basis. 

Q: Are there payment plan options?
A: Yes, there are options through the SportsEngine registration portal to schedule out payment plans accordingly. 

Q: Can the Thunder Beach KC facility be rented?
A: Yes! For more information, click the "Facility Rental" tab above. 

Q: What is the Thunder Beach KC refund policy?
A: Our general policy is refunds are not available. Often our rosters have limited space and last minute cancellations hinder our ability to properly plan and organize our leagues/tournaments. However there are a few exceptions...

  • If you provide us with written notice of your need for a refund up to seven (7) days prior to the registration deadline for that event/tournament/season, we will be able to provide a refund. Depending upon the price of the event and if you registered as an individual or team, there may be a processing fee.
  • A season program credit may be offered in lieu of a refund. 
  • In case of injury prior to or during the season, we will evaluate each situation on a case by case basis. 
  • If an event has to be cancelled for any reason and you are unable to participate in another TBKC event, you will be provided a full refund. 
  • All event refund credits must be used within two of the following events.
  • If you are unable to participate after completing the registration process, we are able to provide you a credit for any future TBKC programming.
